Burnley's CCTV radio system, also known as Shopwatch and Pubwatch, has moved from an aging VHF analogue radio system to a modern and secure digital NXDN system on UHF. A Shopwatch/Pubwatch system is a communication network used by town centre shops and pubs to communicate with each other, security staff, the Police and the CCTV control room to report incidents, monitor suspicious activity and to share information on any other town centre concerns.

The CCTV control room is located in Blackburn, which is a high-tech and modern CCTV control room that provides CCTV control and services for East Lancashire (Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Burnley, Pendle and Preston) on behalf of the East Lancashire Partnership.

Moving to the new system will bring more security to the network, allow stunning and tracking of lost radios, offer more functions for system users and improve communication quality.

Along with the new radio system, Burnley BID Wardens are now patrolling the town centre to deal with anti-social behaviour and to liaise with security teams, businesses and the police.

Funding has come from Burnley BID and Safer Streets Fund, which is a fund to improve the town centre and business areas of Burnley, and is being managed by Groundwork CLM (Groundwork Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside).
