WhatsApp is currently testing a new voicemail-style feature in its Android beta version, aimed at improving the calling experience. This feature allows users to send a voice message directly from the call screen after a missed call, similar to traditional voicemail. It eliminates the need to return to the chat window to record a voice note separately.
What is the New Feature?
If you're calling someone on WhatsApp and they don't answer, a new option will appear on the call screen—“Record Voice Message”. Along with the old options of “Call Again” and “Cancel Call”, this new feature allows you to record and send a voice message immediately.
How Does It Work?
Once the call is missed, the “Record Voice Message” button will appear on the screen. By tapping on it, you can record a message directly, and once the recording is complete, it will be sent in the same chat thread where the missed call notification appeared. The recipient will immediately know the reason for your call and can reply at their convenience.
Why Is This Feature Special?
Many times, users need to convey an important message but the other person is unable to answer the call. Instead of typing a message, sending a voice note immediately will be faster and more efficient. This feature functions like a traditional voicemail, but it's integrated within WhatsApp’s chat interface, making it quicker and more accessible.
Currently, this feature is available for Android beta users, while iPhone users haven't yet seen it on iOS TestFlight. WhatsApp has not yet provided an official launch date for this feature.
Focus on Calling Experience
WhatsApp continues to improve its calling features, recently testing another feature where users can set reminders for missed calls, ensuring they don't forget to call back later. This move reflects WhatsApp's effort to make voice calling more smart and convenient, even though chatting remains the primary mode of communication for most users.
