I have a main laptop on Windows 11 a very old netbook on windows 10 and a couple of spare old laptops (which will run Windows 11 but they are there in case my main one conks out). I've just enrolled for ESU on the netbook. It doesn't get used much but there's a particular program I wanted to keep that won't run on Windows 11.
What are others doing? Upgrading to Windows 11 (if possible)? Doing the ESU for a year and then thinking what to do. Buying a new computer? I object to the idea of having to buy new computers to run Windows 11! A couple of years ago I bought my current laptop second hand - 10th generation so I knew it would run Windows 11. There should be a good market for used laptops though if some people end up buying new ones. Many will run Windows 11 unofficially. As long as they have SSE4.2.
I actually have a very very old laptop somewhere in the house! 2nd generation Core i5, which has SSE4.2 - so might install Windows 11 on it just for fun.
If you install 24H2 now (unofficially - and Microsoft accepts it so it's not illegal), then it's fine until 24H2 stops being supported, then it means an in place upgrade or clean install. It won't upgrade to 25H2 automatically if it's an unofficial install but it still gets all the usual updates.
I actually had the first iteration of Windows 11 on the 13 year old netbook! But once it got to 23H2 it wouldn't function very well any more. And definitely won't run 24H2.
Sorry if people know all this stuff already, but what are you doing come October this year? Upgrading to Windows 11? Getting ESU or buying a new computer? (I refuse to buy a new computer lol).
